Two govt engineers held by Lokayukta for taking bribe


 

Gulbarga Jul 29 2010: An assistant Executive Engineer and a Junior Engineer were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs four lakh from a contractor here today.

Talking to newspersons here, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police B N Nilgar said the accused Chandrasekhar Kakkari and Dhanyakumar Balamshetty were attached to Bandorinala sub-division of Karnataka Niravari Nigam Limited at Mahagaon in the district. They demanded the bribe to clear a payment of Rs 39 lakh pertaining to a civil work under the project executed by one contractor Kallappa Sheshappa Yadav. Mr Nilgar said yesterday the contractor requested the engineers to clear the bill by accepting a payment of Rs 2.5 lakh. But, the engineers denied and demanded payment of full amount.

Worried at the engineers demanding attitude, the contractor informed the Gulbarga Lokayukta officials who in turn laid the trap and nabbed the accused at the residence of Kakkeri. The police recovered Rs four lakh cash and arrested both the accused.

The accused would be sent to judicial, Mr Nilgar informed.
